Sometimes the smallest things deliver the biggest messages.
If you’ve been following along on our journey toward full-time RV living, you may have read my recent post about some of the doubts I’ve been having.
Not exactly cold feet, but those nagging questions that start creeping in as retirement gets closer.
Can we really afford this? Have we figured out the health insurance? Are we going to make the budget work?
We’ve been taking a closer look at our spending and making some adjustments. We’ve even cut back on eating out. These days, we generally limit ourselves to once a week.
Tonight was our night out, and we decided on Chinese food.
At the end of our meal, we opened our fortune cookies.
Ed opened his first.
“A special someone will enter your life in December.”
We smiled, didn’t give it much thought, and moved on. After all, how often do you expect something written inside a fortune cookie to actually come true?
Then I opened mine.
“Trust in the process, and April will bring you great rewards.”
My heart stopped.
April?
Of all the things that little slip of paper could have mentioned, and of all the MONTHS it said April.
April 2, 2027.
That’s my last scheduled day of work. The day I plan to hang up my nursing badge, close the door on a long career, and begin an entirely new chapter of life.
With everything that’s been weighing on my mind lately, I just sat there staring at that little piece of paper.
I showed Ed. He smiled, and then we both started laughing. Not because it was particularly funny, but because it was so unbelievably fitting.
Seriously, what are the odds?
Maybe it was just a coincidence. Maybe it was a little reminder arriving at exactly the right moment.
Or maybe the universe really was trying to tell us something.
Trust the process. It’s going to be okay.
And then…
When I realized maybe there is a reason this particular fortune landed up in my fortune cookie…
I started to wonder who my husband’s going to meet in December!
