For months now, I’ve been telling myself that I’ve got plenty of time.
A drawer here.
A cabinet there.
Little by little.
Except I’ve finally realized something.
Little by little isn’t going to cut it anymore.
We’re down to 26 Fridays until retirement.
That sounds like plenty of time.
Until I start subtracting holidays and travel weeks.
Then suddenly, I’m looking at about twenty workable weekends.
And I have a whole house to deal with.
This isn’t regular decluttering.
We’re getting ready to leave this house and move into a motorhome.
Which means almost everything we own needs a decision.
Keep.
Sell.
Donate.
Toss.
Wow.
That’s a lot.
And apparently wandering around the house, opening random cabinets, finding something I haven’t seen in fifteen years, and getting completely sidetracked by it isn’t an actual downsizing strategy.
So, I have a new plan.
Divide and conquer.
I divided the house into 20 sections.
One section per week.
Some weekends should be easy wins.
Others?
Probably not so much.
And I already know there will be places where I’ll find something that stops me cold.
Things with memories attached.
Things I haven’t used in years but somehow still can’t imagine getting rid of.
Things that make me wonder why on earth we still own them.
But twenty sections feels different than an entire house.
An entire house feels impossible.
One section?
I can do one section.
So that’s the plan.
One section.
One weekend.
No more, “I’ll do that next time.”
Because next time is already scheduled.
Twenty sections.
Twenty weekends.
Divide and conquer.
Wish me luck!
